Welcome to Common Sense Times!

The blog title, Common Sense Times, was inspired by the pamphleteer Thomas Paine who first published Common Sense in 1776. Thomas Paine’s words of 1776 seem prophetic and applicable to today’s world. Paine, who was born in England and later came to Philadelphia, became a strong proponent in support of American independence. Thomas Paine, writing in Common Sense stated “a long habit of not thinking a thing wrong, gives it a superficial appearance of being right, and raises at first a formidable outcry in defense of custom. But the tumult soon subsides. Time makes more converts than reason.” Certainly these words could be applied to many of the headlines of today.

Common Sense Times will present views and commentary regarding the ever changing political environment, the hypocrisy of politics and the policies and role of government. We also intend to expose media bias every chance we get. It is important to see how perception can be shaped at the expense of reality. Some stories are less informative for what they say and more revealing for what they leave out.

We invite participation and input from all, including opposing points of view. All citizens want a better country, save few exceptions, the point of contention often arises in the definition of “better” and the means to achieve it. Common Sense Times will draw attention to those areas of contention and agreement.
